Prof. Brahmananda Mahapatra, is one of the highly accomplished professional in the field of Ayurveda Education and Research. Currently, he is the Chairperson, Ayurveda Chair at the University of Latvia, Riga deputed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Prof. Mahapatra graduated in Ayurveda (BAMS) from Govt. Ayurveda College, Puri under Utkal University, Odisha, India in 1976; completed Post Graduation in Dravyaguna (Medicinal Plants) from Govt. Ayurveda College, Trivandrum, under Kerala University, India in 1983 and awarded PhD degree in Ayurveda for exploring the “Medicinal Plants of Odisha in Ayurvedic therapy” under Utkal University, Odisha, India during 2006.
He has been working professionally in the field of Ayurveda Education and Research since past 35 years. He is involved as an academician in teachings, syllabus making, as examiner in M.D., PhD of various Universities. His Administrative involvement includes Principal cum College Hospital Superintendent, Superintendent of State Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Educational Director. He acted as the Senate & Academic Council member being nominated by the Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University, Odisha during his tenure as the Principal of Govt. Ayurveda College under the same University. By this capacity Prof. Mahapatra implemented PhD course in Ayurveda and guided PhD scholars under Sambalpur University.
Prof. Mahapatra has authored or co-authored about 25 original scientific articles, abstracts in reputed National and International journals, chapter of books. He has actively participated and contributed during the 2nd Edition (2016) of “Medicinal Plants used in Ayurveda”published by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, an autonomous organisation under ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi. He is serving as the member of National Editorial Advisory Board of an International Journal – “Indian Journal of Ancient Medicine & Yoga”. He has organised, participated and invited as guest speaker in various National & International conferences, also chaired and co-chaired during scientific sessions.
Prof. Mahapatra is the recipient of prestigious “Scientist of the Year Award-2006” by National Environmental Science Academy (NESA), New Delhi; “Eminent Educationist Award-2011” by National & International Compendium (NIC), New Delhi and “Bharat Vidya Siromani Award-2011” by Indian Solidarity Council (ISC), New Delhi.
